When Amna Anwar crossed the stage at the 2017 CQUniversity Rockhampton Graduation Ceremony on 24 August 2017, she not only did her family proud, but the local childcare industry as well.
Amna, who moved from Pakistan to Australia with her husband and two children in 2010, graduated with a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care at the ceremony, capping off what has been several stellar years of hard work and dedication to her studies.
Receiving the Diploma is a real highlight for Amna, who has already secured full-time employment at the Natural Wonders Early Learning Centre in Rockhampton.
“We’ve been in Rockhampton for nearly three and a half years now and I love Rocky,” she said.
“I knew I didn’t want to be a stay at home mum – I wanted to be more productive.
“I have two children of my own – a boy and a girl – and I love being with kids, so it was natural to want to work in childcare.
“My husband really encouraged me to do it.”
Amna said the training she received at CQUniversity helped her get to where she is today.
“My supervisor Jennifer Geddes was brilliant and the she understood the cultural differences,” she said.
“The staff at Natural Wonders are also brilliant – my co-educators are so lovely and we really are all part of a team.”
Amna said she hoped to come back to CQUniversity to take up further study in childhood education in the near future.
