Teachers, principals and school support staff across the Northern Territory will receive some well-earned thanks as part of World Teachers’ Day celebrations.
NT Minister for Education Eva Lawler joined the World Teachers’ Day event at Moulden Park Primary School, taking time to thank all educators that strive to create better opportunities for our kids.
“The Territory Government will always invest in kids and their education, but we can’t do that without the great work of our quality educators,” Ms Lawler said.
“Teachers play such an important role in all of our lives. We, as parents, trust them with our children as they help shape and mould their future, act as role models, and encourage them to learn, play and better themselves each and every day.
“I still remember my first teacher, Mrs Walmsley at Maranga Preschool in Winnellie, and I’m sure many other Territorians do as well. The life-long impact a teacher has on their students can be incredible, that’s why it’s so important to celebrate the tireless efforts of educators on World Teachers’ Day.”
As part of her visit to Moulden Primary School, Minister Lawler also launched the NT Government’s new Principal Wellbeing Framework which compliments the $124 million additional investment into schools and mentoring support for new teachers.
“On this day in 2016 I announced that the Territory Government would develop a Principal Wellbeing Framework to support principals to maintain their health and wellbeing and develop strategies to support them in managing their role,” she said.
“As a former educator, I understand the challenges, complexities and stress that come with running a school and the role of the Principal in supporting the wellbeing of all staff, especially our teachers. I hope that this new tool will ensure that our principals and school leader’s wellbeing is maintained.”
The Education NT Principal Wellbeing Framework has been developed in consultation with the Northern Territory Principals’ Association and Territory school leaders.
To coincide with World Teachers’ Day, the winners of the annual Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards will be announced at functions across the Northern Territory.
