CQUniversity will analyse real-time data from the Sonnant Voice Intellect software platform to understand how students engage with this new form of digital learning environment, which is designed to transcribe and enhance the experience of audio-visual content.
The University has been awarded research grant funding from Sonnant Pty Ltd to examine the impact of Voice Intellect applications on student engagement, participation and learning outcomes.
Voice Intellect enables audio-visual content to be presented in a manner that meets the needs of all students. It’s ideally suited to students from non-English speaking backgrounds and those with disabilities.
The research team is being led by Dr Andrew Roberts of the School of Business and law.
“We are delighted to have this opportunity to examine how Technology Enhanced Learning can improve students’ experience, engagement and learning outcomes, as we deliver more teaching via on-line modes,” Dr Roberts says.
Deputy Dean Research in the School of Business and Law, Professor Julian Tiecher explained that CQUni is focused on delivering the best teaching and learning environment to its students, while ensuring they have the best services that are available.
“We welcome the opportunity to provide valuable research as the digital engagement for students has brought new challenges for all to ensure that students not only receive high quality learning, but also have capacity to meet the TEQSA Higher Education Standards,” Professor Tiecher says.
A spokesperson for Sonnant, Arnie Tuchtan says “we are pleased to work with CQUni, Australia’s largest regional university with over 20 delivery sites and a diversity of local and international students, which will strengthen the study outcomes”.
“The approach of the research team provides confidence that the study will be conducted in an ethical manner,” he says.
“We are pleased to fund the research that will show the level of impact that Voice Intellect can achieve.”
Sonnant Chief Technical Officer Paul Crump says “the technology used for Sonnant Voice Intellect has many applications, but is currently configured to optimise the outcomes in the education fields for both educators and students in that it provides a better link to the manner in which students access and consume content in the modern age”.
