Interpreting students on pathway to vital profession

WA Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Paul Papalia announced the Interpreting Scholarship recipients for the Diploma in Interpreting (LOTE-English) Program.

Scholarship recipients were acknowledged at the North Metropolitan TAFE Festival of English, which celebrates the many English Language studies and services on offer at the campus.

A total of 15 scholarships have been supported by the WA Government with up to $500 per scholarship, through the Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI), towards a diploma.

Interpreters are recognised on the State Priority Occupation List and are essential in a number of sectors including healthcare, social welfare and legal services.

The WA Government strongly supports equitable service provision for everyone in the community.

The scholarships in interpreting offered by OMI are a step towards making these courses available for all.
