New pathway into midwifery in Rockhampton

Any registered nurses visiting the CQUniversity Rockhampton Open Day on Sunday 20 August 2017 can find out about a new pathway into a career in midwifery.

Midwifery Lecturer Bridget Ferguson says six student midwifery places have been secured at Rockhampton Hospital for the 2018 intake of the Bachelor of Midwifery (graduate entry) program. Prospective midwifery students will be able to apply for the places.

“This new 18-month program is fast-tracked and offers successful applicants the ability to work and study at the same time,” Ms Ferguson says.

“Rockhampton Hospital will provide clinical experience in all areas of midwifery, including antenatal care, postnatal care, labour ward care, ATSI pregnancy services, women’s health, and continuity models of midwifery care through midwifery group practice.

“This program includes preceptorship and clinical facilitation.”

Ms Ferguson will be at the Nursing and Midwifery Booth from 11 am to Noon during the Fun Fair and Open Day at CQUniversity Rockhampton North campus on Sunday 20 August 2017.

Running from 9 am to 2 pm, the free event celebrates 50 years since CQUni predecessor the Queensland Institute of Technology (Capricornia) was founded in Rockhampton in 1967.

Attractions will include a petting zoo, a mechanical bull, a rock climbing wall, dodgem cars, laughing clowns, and popular rides such as the King Flyer, Sizzler and the Tea Cups.
