Northern community gathers to celebrate graduands’ success

The northern Tasmanian community will come together to celebrate the achievements of thousands of University of Tasmania graduands.

Family and friends will join more than 2400 graduating students in Launceston as the University and broader community honour the dedication, commitment and hard work employed by students throughout their studies.

Ceremonies will take place on the 14 and 15 December 2018 at Albert Hall, with the iconic Town and Gown procession taking place at 10.15am on Saturday (15 December 2018).

“Graduation marks an important time in a student’s life, where joined by family and friends, they celebrate the success of learning and developing skills and experience which underpins lifelong education,” University of Tasmania Vice-Chancellor Professor Rufus Black said.

“More than 5000 students are graduating over the next two weeks and will take with them an education which will prepare them for careers, both now and into the future.

“We offer them our congratulations and best wishes for the future.”

Graduates from the Children’s University Tasmania, an initiative of the Peter Underwood Centre for Educational Attainment, will lead the Town and Gown procession followed by their official ceremony at the Hotel Grand Chancellor.

Students from Brooks High School, East Tamar Primary and Exeter and Invermay primary schools will participate in the event.

Burnie hosted the first round of summer graduations with Hobart ceremonies being held next week (18-20 December 2018).
