More than 16,000 public health sector staff are benefiting from a pay rise, after HSUWA and the Liberal National Government agreed on a two-year wages package.
Commerce Minister Michael Mischin said the agreement was the result of a collaborative and consultative approach, with workers receiving a 1.5 per cent increase per year.
“Because in-principle agreement was reached before the previous agreement ceased on June 30, 2016, the agreed increase was able to begin immediately, on July 1, 2016,” Mr Mischin said.
“I am pleased the Health Salaried Officers negotiations have concluded, consistent with the State Government’s wages policy.
“In the context of public sector salary budgets, wage outcomes limited to 1.5 per cent are necessary.”
Health Minister John Day said negotiations were entered into in April 2016, with the Government and the HSUWA reaching in-principle agreement on June 24. A subsequent HSUWA ballot registered a majority in support of the offer.
“I stand right behind our hard working and dedicated staff across the health system, and I believe all West Australians are thankful for their commitment to delivering quality care,” Mr Day said.
“Though wages growth is being managed responsibly, pay rises allowed under the Government’s wages policy are still higher than the current inflation rate.
“I encourage all unions to acknowledge the economic situation and respond appropriately.”
