Animals large and small have been given a helping hand thanks to an enthusiastic group of pre-school and primary students.
Eight schools from across Victoria travelled to Melbourne Zoo to take part in the inaugural Zoos Victoria Fighting Extinction Showcase, highlighting the work the schools are doing to raise awareness and funds for species conservation.
The schools were Bentleigh West Primary School, Macclesfield Primary School, Our Lady of Rosary (Kyneton), Woodleigh School (Langwarrin South), St. Peters (Sunshine), Warrnambool East Primary School, St Thomas More Primary School (Mt Eliza) and Eltham Pre-school.
During the event, schools showcased their work to engage local communities which included promoting the use of recycled phones to support the conservation of gorillas, holding an art show featuring some of Australia’s most endangered species and even helping care for three Eastern Barred Bandicoots.
The schools are part of Zoos Victoria’s Fighting Extinction schools program involving more than 300 schools from across Victoria.
