Torquay North Principal appointed

The inaugural principal has been appointed to lead Torquay North Primary School.

Victorian Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney have announced Darren Roskosch as the principal of the new school.

Opening in 2018, Torquay North Primary has capacity for 400 students. The school has been designed with the local community in mind and will include an early learning centre run by the YMCA.

Mr Roskosch is currently the principal of Barwon Heads Primary School and has been in that role since 2010. He has previously served as the Assistant Principal and Principal of Echuca Primary School.

A community information session will be held in the first half of 2017 for local residents to meet Mr Roskosch, discuss enrolments, and learn about the new school’s design and features.

Torquay North Primary is one of 42 new government schools in the construction pipeline following a record $1.8 billion investment by the Victorian Government in new schools and school upgrades around the State.

“Families in the region couldn’t have asked for a better inaugural principal than Darren Roskosch,” Victorian Minister for Education James Merlino said.

“Mr Roskosch has served as a principal at Barwon Heads Primary School for the past seven years and his experience will ensure Torquay North Primary gets off to a great start in 2018.”

“This is an amazing opportunity and an enormous privilege to be entrusted with a new school. I’m looking forward to commencing this exciting journey,” Darren Roskosch said.

“Our aim will be to develop children as communicators, problem solvers, and life-long learners, who are responsible and connected community members.”
