The Western Australian Government has delivered its election commitment to secure the future of the Kiara College farm school.
WA Planning Minister Rita Saffioti has approved changes to the Metropolitan Region Scheme to ensure Kiara College retains a 12-hectare parcel of land to operate its farm school.
The farm has been an important part of the Lockridge and Kiara community for more than 30 years, with a reputation as a unique and motivating educational environment.
Part of the Minister for Planning’s approved Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment includes a requirement for the Kiara College farm school to retain 12 of the 27 hectares of land it currently uses for agricultural education purposes.
The approval also transfers the remaining portion of the land into an urban deferred zone in the Metropolitan Region Scheme, allowing it to be developed into housing.
The Minister’s approval took into account extensive public consultation and broader community needs.
