Gold Coast soul band ‘Electrik Lemonade’ will funk their way into the night, as the headline act for Live at Bond in July 2017, following a whirlwind Australian tour.
The band will take to the stage as the sun sets on Bond University’s annual Twilight Open Day, which will include campus tours, installations, workshops, street food, bars, a series of live local acts and a fireworks display, on Saturday, 22 July 2017.
Electrik Lemonade is renowned for its visual and energetic shows, which has landed the band gigs on Triple J Unearthed, Sunrise, The Project, Toasted TV and international airplay in Europe, Asia and North America.
Formed in December 2010, Electrik Lemonade is the brainchild of nine Gold Coast artists, who play a repertoire of original funk, blues, hip hop, soul and dance music.
Elecrtrik Lemonade guitarist Jake Hudson said the band was looking forward to playing to a local crowd as part of Live at Bond.
“We have wanted to play Live at Bond for nearly five years now, but unfortunately the planets have just never aligned for us,” he said.
“We are so pumped that in 2017 it is all happening and we are absolutely stoked to play to the crowd at Bond some of our best original soul music.
“It is also going to be amazing to see the next generation of musos and artists take to the stage to showcase their talent to such a large crowd.”
Jake said the band had been on a whirlwind national tour since its inception seven years ago, and looked forward to coming home to the Gold Coast.
“We have been spreading our good vibes and explosive energy up and down the east coast of Australia for the past seven years and it has been the most life-changing, amazing experience,” he said.
“After releasing our third EP, ‘Funklore’, two years ago, we have been fortunate enough to headline at the Byron Bay Beach Hotel, Solbar, the Hoey Moey, Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Fest, Surfers Paradise Live, Miami Marketta and Byron Brewery for New Year’s Eve.
“We have also been lucky enough to perform alongside Aussie music legends like The Black Sorrows, John Paul Young, Ross Wilson, Richard Clapton and Ian Moss.
“We are really excited to bring everything we have learnt over the years into a high-energy show that will have the crowd dancing and grooving at Live at Bond.”
Bond University will throw open its doors from 2pm on Saturday, 22 July 2017, for its Twilight Open Day, with entertainment to commence at the ADCO Amphitheatre from 3pm, including DJ Nova and talented performers from All Saints Anglican School and Toowoomba Grammar School.
Electrik Lemonade will take to the stage from 6:30pm, followed by fireworks over the lake at 8:00pm. The whole family is invited to come along, bring a picnic rug, and enjoy the array of street food on offer from some of the Gold Coast’s most popular food trucks.
Twilight Open Day and Live at Bond are free, all-ages events.
