WA Science and Innovation and ICT Minister Dave Kelly officially launched applications for the second round of the WA Government’s Science Industry PhD Fellowships program.

The program, which began in 2018, delivers on a WA Government election commitment to link-up PhD students with industry partners to gain hands-on experience in high growth areas.

Through the fellowship program each winner will receive $30,000 over three years, as well as training, mentoring and industry networking opportunities.

At a ceremony at Technology Park today (April 3 2019), the Minister congratulated 11 young scientists, including four women, for winning the inaugural Science Industry PhD Fellowships earlier in 2019.

Round one recipients are working on a wide range of innovative projects including home automation, protecting critical infrastructure from cyber attack, developing new materials to repair tendon damage, and providing advice to beekeepers to maintain the health of their hives.

Applications for round two of this program are open until April 30, 2019. Funding for the program comes from the WA Government’s $16.7 million New Industries Fund.
